R.E. Assessment The Living Church

Why is the living church called the pilgrim people?

The living church is called the pilgrim people because they were on a life journey to god's kingdom. On their journey they faced many obstacles like anger, fear peer pressure and sadness but they overcame those obstacles and you can too! For example you see a flight of stairs up to god's kingdom so you walk up it but the is a dark shadowy figure representing anger, fear and sadness and it is blocking your path so you turn back but there is another figure, except this on is white and bright. This figure represents kindness, fortitude and happiness and the white figure scares of the dark figure. The pilgrims overcame these obstacles and you can too!

How can my family become part of the living church?

My family can become part of the living church by helping organizations like The Salvation Army or St John to help people without shelter, food or even water.

All About The Olympic Rings

In 7/8 OD we have been learning about what the Olympic rings mean and who designed them. The 5 rings represent the 5 continents of the world Africa, Asia, America, Europe and Australasia but not Antarctica because hardly any people live on Antarctica. A fun fact is that every single country participating in the Olympics has at least 1 color from the Olympic rings. The color of the rings are Blue, Black then Red on the top row and Yellow then Green on the bottom. Baron Pierre De Coubertin the co-founder of the modern Olympics designed the rings in 1912.

What Is Force?

In 7/8 OD lately we have been studying force for science. We have been learning what force is, what effects force has on objects and what is the unit used to measure force. Force is a strength or energy as an attribute or physical action or movement acting as a push or a pull. Force acting on an object might cause the object to change shape, start moving, stop moving or accelerate or decelerate and change direction. A Newton (NT or N) is used to measure force and a force meter or newton meter is an instrument used to measure force.

3 examples of force that we use everyday are...

1. Pulling a rubber band or balloon to stretch it and make it change shape
2. Kick a ball to make it accelerate
3. Gravity is always pulling s down preventing us from floating us up into space

Some examples of force

Frictional, Tension, Normal, Air Resistance, Gravitational, Electrical and Magnetic

Follow The Torch Day 2/3

I missed yesterday because I was busy doing my impact project at home so I will do it in this post as well. Yesterday the torch was in Volta Redonda. Volta Redonda the western state of Rio. It lies along the Paraiba do Sul River at 1,500 feet above sea level. The city is known for it's steel manufacturing. Volta was founded in 1941. Today the torch is in Tres Rios. Tres Rios is a small place in the region of Cartago in Costa Rica with a population of around 10,430 people and is one of the largest places in Costa Rica.

Olympic Torch Day 1

Right Now in 7/8 OD we are having a challenge where we need to post about every city the Olympic torch is in for the upcoming days before the Olympics start. The Olympic torch is a cone shaped aluminium object that the Olympic flame ceremonially carried to lots of different countries and an around 15,000 people gather for an evening of celebration. Right now the church is in Angra Dos Reis. Angra Dos Reis is part of Brazil's Costa Verde in the south of Rio De Janeiro. Angra's bay features 365 tropical islands with more than 2,000 beaches. Some of the islands are private for rich supermodels and media companies. Each island includes fantastic snorkeling, diving, hiking, water sports. fishing and cruising.

Mind Lab

On the last Thursday of Term 2, 7/8 OD traveled to the Mind Lab. We had to make stop motion animations about cyber safety and we used a programme called Monkey Jam to make the animations. We had prepared characters and a background to make our animations on. To make our animations we had to move our characters to a slightly different place every time and take a picture every time. We also programmed robots to move forwards, backwards, left, right and to stop when certain keys are pressed. We also programmed it with infra-red sensors so it moved along a black line with a white surface without a remote. I knew what to do because I had done it before with my robotics impact project group.
I enjoyed making the animation and programming the robots. I didn't dislike any party of the day.

Energy Explained

What is energy?

Energy is the ability to do work. There are 2 main types of energy. Potential and Kinetic energy. Potential energy is energy that is waiting to happen like a ball is lying on the ground waiting to be kicked, it has potential energy. Kinetic energy is energy that you can see. If the ball is kicked you can see it moving so it has kinetic energy. The law of conservation of energy is that energy can not be created or destroyed but it can only be transferred from on another, for example a trampoline has spring and elastic energy. When no one is jumping on it , it has potential energy because all the energy that the trampoline has is waiting to be used  but when someone jumps on it it's kinetic energy because the spring and elastic energy is happening and you can see it happening but the way the the energy is transferred is that the trampoline is using spring and elastic energy and when someone jumps on it they have gravitational energy and when they are at peak height they have potential energy and when they are falling down it turns into kinetic energy.

Culture Day

Today in 7/8 OD we had a big culture lunch and people brought lots of different foods from lots of different countries. I brought Brazilian Choc Fudge Balls that were made of fudge flavor choc that was rolled into a ball and had choc sprinkles covering the ball. They are called Brigadeiro in Brazil. We also had people present what they've done on their culture presentations and what they've learnt. I learnt that Germany have a huge beer festival and that heaps of people from all around Europe come to enjoy all the beersies. I also learnt that Finland use bagpipes to play music and I thought that it was just Scotland that played bagpipes. In overall I had a pretty fun day.

Energy Description

In 7/8 OD for science we have been learning about energy. We have learned about all different types of energy and potential and kinetic energy especially. We made a presentation based on what we know of energy. Take a loot at mine! :)

Culture

Lately in 7/8 OD we have been learning about culture. We have been making slide shows about a chosen culture to write about and learn about. We will be turning our slides from slide shows into movie clips. I have chosen to do the Brazilian culture. I have learnt a lot of new things that the Brazilians do that I never knew before. I have learnt that they cannot be under-dressed when invited to dinner and it's more appropriate to be over-dressed than under-dressed.

This Week In Class

This week in 7/8 OD we were learning how to write a report on a creature. Mrs Odonnell gave us a sheet of a jumbled up report on a New Zealand Spider Crab. We had to cut them out and glue them back on onto a colored piece of card in the correct order. We also started deciding on which animal we are going to write a report on. I am doing a Blue Whale. I found out that there are 2 types of Blue Whales and I didn't know that before.

Whangara Camp

Whangara Camp Experience

On Monday the 7th March 2016 my class 78 OD, 78 BA and 78 SN went on camp to Whangara Marae. The 3 other classes 78 ED, 78 MC and 78 BR would go on Wednesday when we leave. We left at about 9 am and got there around 10 am. The first thing we did was get all our gear off the bus. When we did that we put them under a tree and sat down in our 6 groups, in a line. The groups went from 1 to 6 and I was in group 1. The person in charge Mr Naden told us what we had to do at the Powhiri which we would have just afterwards. When that was done we got organised so that the girls were in the middle and the boys were around them so that we could “protect” them, in case there was a shady character trying to steal them.

After the powhiri was over we got our bags back and we chose whether we wanted to sleep in the big marae or small one. Me, Riley and Stefan (my friends) all went in the small one and chose mattresses next to each other but just before the first night Stefan moved to the big one because there was a free space and he likes their mattresses more than ours. We got out our sleeping bags and pillows and put them on the mattresses. We are not allowed to have food or drinks in the meeting houses (which are the maraes) so we put our lunch boxes and baking in the dining room to the right of both meeting houses. After that we had a bit of free time. I played cricket with my other friends Oli, Liam, and Jackson. If you are thinking we are not allowed to play games on a marae there is a little area where we are not allowed to play games but outside there is a paddock like place where we are allowed to play games.

Then Mr Naden blew a whistle and we all lined up in our groups under a shady tree. Mr Naden said that we would start our rotations which were when you either do scavenger hunt, weaving, art, science (which is looking in the rocky shore for crabs), surfing and boogie boarding. My group did scavenger hunt first, weaving second and art third. We did 3 on Monday. We had 1 hour for each. On Tuesday my group did Surfing, Science and then Boogie Boarding. I did surfing for the first time ever! I actually stood up for a couple of seconds but then someone came out of nowhere and wiped me out. I enjoyed boogie boarding a lot because you could just enjoy yourself and catch some waves. On Wednesday we had breakfast cleaned up the whole marae, greeted 78 ED, MC and BR with a powhiri and left on the bus. I had a really good time.

Introduction

Hi

My name is Owen Page and I have just returned to Campion College for a new year and a new start.

I am a year 8 and almost turning 13 years old.

So far I am enjoying talking to my friends again because I haven't seen them in ages. I am enjoying P.E. because I am one of those people who just wants to get out and have a run.

I find a couple of things challenging like finding my way around the massive school. It is hard to find all my classes!

We have a lot of classes here and sometimes it is hard to remember what we have all the time and where the class is. We have athletics days and swimming sports. I obviously enjoy them because I am a fit person and enjoy sports and running. We have already had our swimming sports this year but I am still looking forward to athletics day :)
